Knitters…
…continue on for all the info you need to decide if this pattern is for you (spoiler—it is!)…
FYI: You may notice that the Worsted weight version is slightly different—that’s not a mistake! Just like the Attic Ladder Beanie, the Worsted version has a couple extra purls to widen the '“ladder”, compared to its Bulky and Super Bulky siblings ;)
Tester Love
In order to make sure that the patterns you purchase from BBYC are tried, tested, and true, I enlist the generous help of some of my maker friends to try it out first. They make their own Attic Ladder Cowls and in the process they help me proofread and troubleshoot the pattern to ensure it is correct and easy to understand before it gets into your hands. Their help is SO important to the process of releasing a great pattern.
You can head on over to their Instagram pages to show them some love and likes, but for now here are some of their beautiful Attic Ladder Beanies:
Steph @blushnpurl
Jana @cyclingyarnie
Jenna @pineapplesandpurls
Heather @swan_knits
Ashley @gooseandghostknits
Cathy @wildernesshomeknits
Jody @jhknitscreations
Want to help test future BBYC patterns? I have both knit and crochet patterns in the works that will come up for testing in the coming weeks and months, and I love to have new people test—a fresh perspective is so important! Subscribe to my newsletter to receive pattern test notifications, and follow me on Instagram for all the sneak peaks of upcoming tests and releases :)
Fit
This pattern is easily adjusted to make a more snug and cozy cowl, or a more loose fitting accessory. These photos show the cowls in each weight as they are written in the pattern: Worsted, Bulky, and Super Bulky.
Skills Required
Casting on (I use the Long Tail Cast On method because the stretch is great for the bottom of the cowl)
Joining to knit in the round
Knit stitch
Purl stitch
Binding off (standard bind off is perfect for all versions, but I used a tubular bind off for my Worsted sample and LOVE how it looks with the 1x1 ribbed collar)
The pattern PDF includes links to YouTube videos explaining all the skills you need to make this beanie, so as long as you can knit and purl, you will be able to navigate the pattern fairly easily. Honestly, even if knitting is completely new to you, you can learn to knit and purl from YouTube too. If this is your first knitting project, I HIGHLY recommend that you complete a gauge swatch before beginning your cowl (details included in the pattern PDF). Technically, everyone should do a gauge swatch, but I know that I don’t always do so for small projects like hats and cowls—eek!
Don’t hesitate to reach out via email if the videos don’t click for you and you need a little clarification—I’m happy to help get you on your way to a perfect cowl :)
